Dear Recruiting Team,
My name is Laura Jean La Douceur. Thank you for taking the time to check out my virtual resume on Notion. I am an avid notion user and find this platform gives me more freedom to share myself with you than a one-page resume document. I feel I am a great candidate for your position and believe that through my different skills, talents, and knowledge I will possess the necessary skills to succeed when stepping into this role.
Please accept this letter as my formal request to apply for your open position. I would like to take this time to highlight my achievements over the past two years at my current and former employers. I feel this background will provide you with great insights into how I conduct myself at work.
As a Senior Instructional Designer at my current employer, I’ve had the esteemed pleasure of crafting a leadership development program for Banking Directors, VPs, and SVPs, as well as developing a team member professional development series for team members to grow soft skills and gain new knowledge and abilities. I have also had the opportunity to develop a new process surrounding course evaluation that helps encourage the use of the Kirkpatrick Model’s 1-4 levels in the pre-planning, analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases of a program.
As Sr. Manager of Talent Strategy, I worked closely with Executive Leadership to establish cultural changes within Freedom Mortgage's vision, mission, and core values. This was done by establishing our 2022 corporate strategy. Together, we developed new core values for the company to align desired employee behaviors with Key Performance Indicators that tie directly to those core values established.
Additionally, I was a driving contributor to several employee engagement opportunities. By closely collaborating with Corporate Learning & Development, I established initiatives and programs that were missing from the company and increased employee engagement, morale, and camaraderie. These initiatives include creating Corporate Lunch & Learns and creating a Learning Experience and Design Community of Practice where interested employees gather to learn new tools, technologies, soft skills, and mortgage knowledge to further their growth and development. Additional efforts included an L&D Newsletter, where I designed, contributed articles, and edited the newsletter that provided information on the future of L&D in our organization and our current efforts and programs. I also worked on an L&D Working Committee, of which I was the organizer, agenda creator, and speaker, bringing together all VPs and Directors from the 8 channels of L&D to discuss lane-specific and corporate initiatives.
In my previous role as a Manager of Learning and Development, I established a Wholesale Learning & Development team at Freedom Mortgage. The previous iteration of this team was disbanded in 2016, therefore all documentation and processes present were outdated and unusable. My contributions began shortly after the team was formed in July 2020, starting in August 2020. I directly established all processes, procedures, and standards for the Wholesale Learning and Development team. My individual contribution began as the team’s only content developer, creating all materials, documentation, templates, and organization tools to deliver virtual training. Within my second month, I was promoted to the manager of L&D and recruited a team of instructional designers and supporting trainers/mentors to grow our ability to document, train, and coach team members of the Wholesale Mortgage Channel. I devised a learning program called Designer Track, which provides designers with hands-on experience creating a training program utilizing the ADDIE Model. This program taught learners adult learning theories, methodology, documentation standardization, and advanced Microsoft Suite, Canva.com, and Rise Articulate 360 technologies.
I additionally developed a management program called Leadership Bootcamp. This provided entry-level Team Leaders, Supervisors, and Managers with experience and guidance on leading with purpose and providing opportunities for coaching and growth. With a small team of 3 instructional designers and 2 support trainers, my team created over 1250+ job aids, process guides, manuals, PowerPoints, policies, procedures, and other educational documentation in a 9-month span.
During these opportunities, I have grown a vast and comprehensive knowledge of all things design, learning, and development. In my free time, I spend my leisure by reading personal growth, leadership, and development books or watching e-learning courses through LinkedIn Learning. Other hobbies include video editing, digital art, and design, and learning about emerging technologies.
I also truly enjoy researching theories and ideologies and find personal satisfaction in constantly learning new skills and experiences that will further me personally and professionally. I have always had a great passion for teaching and learning, and find myself greatly poised to be an incredible resource. I contribute greatly to the overall success and execution of projects and look forward to the next challenge that will continue to grow me in the ways I desire to evolve.
I am excellent at managing my time effectively and efficiently while constantly being open to a changing dynamic that requires problem-solving, collaboration, and communication. I am a Certified Instructional Designer who has completed numerous developmental courses to gain additional Design Thinking, Agility, and Strategic Thinking Skills. I have completed over 118 e-learning courses on LinkedIn Learning in the past three years and am an avid learner who is constantly reading up on industry news and updates in the training and design field.
Thank you kindly for your time and consideration as I look to embark on my next career opportunity.
Respectfully Yours,
Laura Jean "LJ" La Douceur
